About Dr. Carofino

Dr. Brad Carofino is a board-certified (American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery), fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in shoulder & upper extremity surgery. Dr. Carofino is an expert in shoulder replacement surgery, minimally invasive arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and complex reconstructive procedures of the upper extremity.

Specialized Training

Dr. Carofino has completed fellowship training in both Shoulder Surgery and Hand Surgery at the University of Washington and Mayo Clinic, respectively. He is one of a few surgeons in Virginia, and the only in South Hampton Roads, Virginia, with fellowship training specifically in Shoulder Surgery, and among a small number of surgeons in the country who have completed both fellowships.

Cutting Edge Research

Dr. Carofino is actively involved in the research and development of new techniques for minimally invasive shoulder replacement surgery, and rotator cuff treatment. He has presented and published his research nationally, and currently teaches other surgeons in shoulder replacement techniques.

Be Treated Like an Athlete

Dr. Carofino often cares for high-level athletes with shoulder and upper extremity injuries. He is a team physician for the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of Baltimore Orioles), team physician for Bryant and Stratton College, and consultant to Norfolk State University. He has expertise in treating overhead athletes such as baseball, volleyball and tennis players. Dr. Carofino prides himself on providing all patients with a level of care provided to high-level athletes. This includes accelerated rehabilitation programs, and access to Dr. Carofino’s athletic trainer, Brice Snyder, MSAT, ATC, OTC who will help guide you through your rehab.

Dr. Carofino firmly believes that physicians and “care teams” who have extensive experience, and who specialize in your particular problem provide the best medical care. Dr. Carofino performs over 100 shoulder replacements per year, which places him in the top 5% of orthopaedic surgeons nationally. He works closely with a consistent team of physical therapists, athletic trainers, operating room personnel an office staff who are dedicated to providing you with the highest level of care possible.
